50th Anniversary Steelway Bob’s Walk for Kids

This October marks the 50th Anniversary of Big Brothers Big Sisters of St. Thomas Elgin.

To celebrate we are going a little old school by bringing back one of our biggest historic fundraisers from the 1970’s and 80’s the Big Brother Walkathon – this time with a twist. The walkathon was a huge fundraiser for our agency in the early years and that is largely due to the efforts of Bob McCaig, one of our founding members.  We honour Bob by adding his name to the event he was so passionate about.

We are pleased to announce the generous support of Steelway Building Systems as our Presenting Sponsor.  We feel it is so appropriate to have this community minded business on board for our 50th Anniversary celebrations.  Steelway Building Systems has been a long time supporter of this organization and continues to see the value of youth mentoring programs.

St. Thomas City Councillor, Jeff Kohler, is the Honorary Chairman for this event.  As a dear friend of Bob McCaig and a respected local politician and business man, we are confident this will be a very successful 50th Anniversary celebration.  Don’t be surprised if you see him around asking for your support to reach our goal of $10,000 for at-risk youth in St. Thomas and Elgin County.

This October we are asking you to join us for the BBBS 50th Anniversary Steelway Bob’s Walk for Kids. Register to walk 10kms or complete 150 minutes of activity virtually in the month of October while raising dollars for mentoring programs for children who face adversity in our community.

For every dollar you raise, The Sweetgrass Fund, Bob McCaig’s legacy fund will match that dollar up to $10,000.

There are prizes to be won for top fundraisers and swag for minimum dollars raised – $100 gets you a t-shirt, $250 gets you a hoodie.

Registration starts Monday, September 14th, get outside, active, and raise dollars, to help our kids get the supportive and mentoring relationships they so desperately need.
